Track Team Wins 11th Straight District Title

The St. Joseph’s Academy track and field team won its 11th consecutive District 5-5A track and field championship on April 19 at Catholic High School. The team scored 207 points, the third highest total in school history. Rounding out the field were Baton Rouge High (159), Dutchtown (91), St. Amant (54), East Ascension (31) and Broadmoor (8).

The top four finishers in each event move on to the Region II-5A championship, set for April 26 at Catholic High. The top three performers in each regional event will qualify for the LHSAA Class 5A State Championship on May 5 at LSU. 

SJA captured eight district championships: five individual events and all three relays. This year marks the first time all three relay teams won district titles. Additionally, SJA will compete in all 18 events in the regional championship. 

Scoring points towards the team’s total were the following: 

4x200m Relay: Alexis Barbay, Rebecca Schwartzenburg, Ava Moreau and Kelly Stephens, 1st place, 1:47.00 

1600m Run: Lauren Hendry, 1st place, 5:34.00; Isabelle Brown, 2nd place, 5:34.23

100m Hurdles: Chelsea-Rose Bagnerise, 2nd place, 16.27; Claire Holder, 4th place, 16.52

100m Dash: Sydney LaFleur, 3rd place, 13.14; Kennedy Benjamin, 6th place, 13.46 

800m Run: Isabelle Brown, 1st place, 2:25.10; Taylor Winters, 3rd place, 2:26.65 

4x100m Relay: Chelsea-Rose Bagnerise, Rebecca Schwartzenburg, Alexis Barbay and Sydney LaFleur, 1st place, 50.45 

400m Dash: Alessandra Purnell, 3rd place, 1:02.66; Bradlee Betz, 4th place, 1:02.75 

300m Hurdles: Sophie Kronenberger, 2nd place, 48.16; McKenna Ramsey, 6th place, 50.16 

200m Dash: Alexis Barbay, 2nd place, 27.60; Rebecca Schwartzenburg, 5th place, 28.12 

3200m Run: Lauren Hendry, 1st place, 11:35.38; Sophie Martin, 2nd place, 11:51.47 

4x400m Relay: Taylor Winters, Kelly Stephens, Bradlee Betz and Alessandra Purnell, 1st place, 4:10.47 

High Jump: Catherine Couvillion, 1st place, 5-02.00; Hannah Grace Babin, 2nd place, 4-10.00 

Pole Vault: Peyton Williams, 2nd place, 10-00.00; Anna Koonce, 3rd place, 8-06.00 

Long Jump: Claire Holder, 2nd place, 17-00.50; Haley Blouin, 6th place, 15-08.00

Triple Jump: Haley Blouin, 4th place, 32-07.00; Claire Holder, 5th place, 32-06.25 

Shot Put: Kayleigh Mims, 2nd place 37-05.00 

Discus: Peyton Smith, 3rd place, 101-04.00; Kayleigh Mims, 4th place, 94-09.00
