The SJA Cheerleaders placed first in the Super Varsity Division of regional competition on November 10 at Southeastern Louisiana University. The squad finished ahead of St. Thomas More and Teurlings Catholic and earned a bid to the National High School Cheerleading Championship set for February 8-10 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando.
Moderator Lauren Morris expressed pride in the team’s performance. “We have an extremely talented team this year, and we were so excited to see them perform their Nationals routine in front of a crowd for the first time and show off their hard work,” she said. “We had a few falls and bobbles, but we know what we need to work on, and we can only improve from here.”
Coach Chelsea Milazzo said the regional competition was a great learning experience. “We were able to learn our strengths, and we know what to improve on for the next couple of weeks,” she said. “We are excited to continue working hard and put out an even more impressive routine at our next competition in December. The team is really something special this year, so stay tuned for another incredible competition season.”
Next up for the cheerleaders is the Dixie Championship in Jackson, Mississippi, on December 2.
