The St. Joseph’s Academy Athletic Hall of Fame inducted its 2019 class during a special evening celebration on February 9 in the Academy Student Center.
Coach Elizabeth “Liz” Fontenot (strength & conditioning, soccer, cross country, softball and track & field), the late Sister Ursula Harelson, CSJ ’45 (distinguished volunteer) and Dr. Julie Neumann ’03 (volleyball, swimming, softball and soccer) were honored.
Athletic Director Dorinda Beaumont welcomed the large crowd, and theology faculty member Sister Chris Pologa offered the blessing. Brenda LeBlanc, SJA health and physical education faculty member and 2017 Hall of Fame inductee, served as the evening’s mistress of ceremonies.
The three inductees was introduced by tribute videos produced by SJA Media Coordinator Erin Albarado and Communications Director Mindy Brodhead Averitt. President Jan Rhorer Breen and Principal Stacia Andricain presented the honorees with a replica of the SJA Hall of Fame logo carved from wood used on the original SJA gymnasium floor. Sister Ursula was represented by one of her great-nieces, Shannon Dougat Feet, class of 1996 and a former member of the Academy volleyball team.
Sister Joan Laplace, Mission Advancement associate director, offered the closing prayer.
The Hall of Fame planning committee was co-chaired by Averitt and Mission Advancement Director Meg Gerald. Joining them on the committee were Beaumont, Assistant to the Alumnae Director and Athletic Director Nan Murtagh and Alumnae Director Katie Jeter Valenciano ’04.
Sponsors for the evening were Baker Printing, Baton Rouge Coca-Cola, “The Original” Heroman’s Florist and Crescent Crown Distributing.
