St. Joseph’s Academy has been a symbol of excellence for nearly 150 years. SJA provides a balanced, holistic education by offering a rigorous academic curriculum and strong religious environment complemented by a vibrant visual and performing arts curriculum.
As the Academy looks to the future, our vision turns to
- Enhancing our health and wellness curriculum
- Expanding our intramural athletic program
- Continuing our outstanding interscholastic athletic program
- Furthering the wellbeing of each student through exercise, conditioning and learning opportunities focused on healthy lifestyles
- Creating much-needed space to celebrate masses and other school events with extended families, grandparents and friends.
We anticipate completion of the Academy Student Center by August of 2018 for the start of the year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of SJA’s founding in Baton Rouge by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1868.
The new Academy Student Center includes a multipurpose gymnasium, fitness room, lobby space, locker rooms and concession area. The gymnasium will meet LHSAA requirements to enable SJA to host basketball and volleyball playoff games. The facility will enable all student-athletes to compete in a state-of-the-art space while also meeting the educational needs of the entire student body. The facility will have 1,050 fixed bleacher seats and moveable seating for approximately 750 to enable 1,800 people to come together for school functions and athletic events.
The exterior of the new building will be consistent in architectural style with existing Academy facilities. The interior will provide students with 21st century spaces that include modern technologies to facilitate a wide range of programs and encourage social interaction. Multifunctioning spaces can be utilized by students, teachers and outside entities.
