Athletes Bring Home Top Honors from LSU Meet

Juniors Briana Golden and Bria Murray finished first in their respective events at the LSU High School Indoor Classic track meet. The event, which annually draws top competitors from across the southeastern United States, was held January 8 and 9 at the LSU Carl Maddox Field House.

“The first-place win was a great start to the track season.” Brianna Golden '11

Golden won the shot put with a personal indoor best of 37’-6”, while Murray won the long jump with a leap of 18’-0”, also a personal indoor best. “These are very big accomplishments for so early in the season with only one week of practice,” said SJA track and field coach Charlie Daigle.

Both student-athletes expressed satisfaction with their early season performances.

“The first-place win was a great start to the track season,” Golden said. “I’m really proud of myself and I hope to continue to get those first-place finishes for the rest of the season.”

“I was excited to go to my first track meet as a junior,” Murray said. “It was good to see people from all the different states that I could compete against. I was excited to jump 18 feet at the first meet because that is usually how far I jump towards the end of the season. I have a good feeling about this season.”
