Soccer Teams Pay Tribute to Teachers

The St. Joseph’s Academy junior varsity and freshman soccer teams honored their favorite teachers by inviting them to an intersquad scrimmage on January 23. At halftime, team members presented the teachers with flowers, and following the game, they hosted a breakfast reception complete with king cake.

“...getting to see them play was a fun way to get to know more about my students outside of class.” Kevin Landry, math teacher

“It was humbling to be chosen by my students as their favorite teacher,” said Sister Joan Manuel, CSJ. “Going to the game was an opportunity to see the students outside the classroom setting working at something they really enjoy. I was also impressed by the camaraderie you often see exhibited on the sports teams of our girls. Meeting many of the girls’ parents made the day special on many levels. It was a wonderful opportunity to say in person how grateful I am to have the privilege of teaching their daughters as well to acknowledge the parents’ devotion to supporting their daughters in academics and co-curricular activities.”

Kevin Landry said he thoroughly enjoyed the experience. “It was great,” he said. “I love soccer, and getting to see them play was a fun way to get to know more about my students outside of class. The breakfast and the gifts were an extra, unexpected treat.”

“I was very honored to be asked to attend the soccer game,” said Holly Randow. “Even though the varsity didn’t get to play, we got to see the younger girls play and visit with the girls and their parents. I really enjoyed it.”

Aubrey Cucullu said she was flattered to be asked to attend. “I love supporting the girls in their co-curricular events, and it was nice to know they appreciate our presence," she said.

Lori Harper said she was excited to be invited to the game by freshman Maddie Flechas. “It was so nice to see the students in a different venue,” she said. “Our girls were enthusiastically playing and scrimmaging. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them and talking to them and their parents and grandparents. The girls and their parents had a wonderful breakfast for us and flowers, too.”
