The St. Joseph’s Academy golf team won the Girls Metro Golf Tournament, held April 10 at Beaver Creek Golf Course. The 2017 metro title is SJA’s third in a row.
The Redstickers posted a team score of 184 to finish ahead of Parkview Baptist (207) and Zachary (208).
Junior Claire Harrington shot an 87 to pace SJA. She finished third in medalist play.
“It was a perfect day for golf, and the field was tight with really close scores in the end,” Harrington said. “It was a great outcome for the SJA golf team.”
“I’m very proud of the girls,” said head coach Brad Buras. “They’ve worked hard all year to achieve their goal. They played well under adverse circumstances. I hope this is a springboard for future success at the regional and state golf tournaments. Our team goal from day one has been to win the whole thing.”
Freshman Michelle Lorio said she enjoyed her first metro championship. “I thought it was a lot of fun,” she said. “It was a great experience for me, being a freshman. All of us worked as a team to win the match. Playing in the tournament was fun, exciting and spectacular.”
The regional tournament is set for April 24 at Tamahka Trails Golf Club in Marksville.
