Members of the St. Joseph’s Academy gymnastics team celebrated the 2016-2017 season with a gathering and dinner on May 11 at the home of Cheryl and Lloyd LoCascio, parents of junior Morgan LoCascio.

Faculty moderator Brenda LeBlanc recapped the season, and Coach Natalie Pitts presented varsity letters, including senior trophies to four-year letter winners Braley Alexander, Claire Daigrepont and Caitlin Canova.

Junior Ellen Herndon and sophomore Kate Michel received special recognition for placing fifth at the State Gymnastics Meet in their respective categories (Division III Level 3 and Division II Level 4 Vault).

This year’s winner of the Coach’s Award for leadership and support of the team was Morgan LoCascio. The Most Valuable Gymnast Award went to Ellen Herndon for her dedication, spirit, improvement and overall performance.

The closing highlight of the evening was the traditional “Most likely to” awards given to underclasswomen by the seniors.

“This was a very productive year for us at the lower-division levels,” LeBlanc said. “As a team, we were hampered because our two upper-level gymnasts were unable to compete at the state meet due to injury. Both of these girls are freshmen, and we have many returning gymnasts with a lot of promise. I expect next year to be an exciting one for SJA gymnastics.”
